Car crash and fire shut down eastbound I-80 in Placer County

4 people injured after car catches fire in I-80 crash in Placer County

BLUE CANYON — A stretch of eastbound Interstate 80 in Placer County was closed Thursday evening due to a vehicle that caught fire after crashing, officials said.

Cal Fire had crews respond to the scene and found the vehicle 100 feet over an embankment. After the car caught fire, the flames spread to nearby vegetation off the side of the freeway.

The crash happened shortly after 4:45 p.m. near Blue Canyon Road.

All four people inside the vehicle suffered moderate to critical injuries, Cal Fire said. No other vehicles were involved.

The eastbound lanes were closed to all traffic for several hours.
