CPSC Issues Recall For 1 Million Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Over Exploding Battery Hazard

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall for 1 million Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices more than a week after the company disclosed the issue.

The government safety group announced the recall less than a week after it cautioned customers to stop using the product over a fire risk. The Federal Aviation Administration also cautioned users not to use the device on airplanes and to power them down when in flight.

At issue is the device's battery, which has been blamed for multiple fires across the United States.

Samsung first disclosed the issue and pulled it from sale earlier this month, but without an official recall order, the devices were still in some stores and available for sale.

Look for the code on the bottom of the back of the phone and enter it in at Samsung.com or call the company (As of 1:30 p.m., the site still had the Sept. 10 recall notice). Customers can either get a refund or a replacement. Customers can also get a $25 gift card, in-store credit or bill credit from select carrier retail outlets.

The recall comes on the eve of the launch of Apple's iPhone 7.
