Cows Spilled On I-80 In Roseville After Crash
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) – Multiple lanes of Interstate 80 in Roseville were blocked early Thursday morning after a truck hauling cows crashed against the guardrail – spilling some cows out.
The crash happened along eastbound I-80 between Riverside Avenue and Douglas Boulevard just before 2 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol. The driver of the truck reportedly swerved to avoid something in the roadway, causing the back end of the trailer to hit the guardrail, knocking open the back doors.
There were around 20 cows in the trailer when it crashed and a few cows had to be euthanized.
Motorists who happened upon the scene helped corral the loose cows.
"We got lucky, there were some people that were familiar with handling farm animals that came and helped us out," said Sgt. Steve Pellegrino from CHP.
A local veterinarian also responded to the scene to euthanize the seriously injured cows.
The lanes were reopened around 4:30 a.m.
