Coroner Identifies Person Killed In Shooting Outside Midtown Sacramento Bar

MIDTOWN SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The person killed in a shooting outside Costanza's Sports Bar on Thursday has been identified.

Joseph Valadez, 20, of Sacramento, was confirmed as the deceased in the shooting, which occurred a little after 1 a.m. in the patio area of the bar, officials said.

It was an emotional embrace between family and friends who came together to honor the memory of Valadez Sunday. A candlelight vigil was held outside the bar where the shooting occurred. Family said they were too distraught to speak.

A GoFundMe page for Valadez's funeral funds shows a photo of him with his young son. The tribute describes the attack as a random violent crime and describes Valadez as a single father who was loving and caring.

A second victim was shot, but Sacramento police said they were expected to survive.

In surveillance video obtained by CBS13, a total of 6 gunshots could be heard followed by screaming in the distance. Police said they believe there was some kind of altercation prior to the shooting.

David Higginbotham says he was heading home just before the shooting.

"I was coming down 21st, saw two guys running the opposite that I was coming," he said.

Suspect information was still not available and a motive has not yet been identified.
