Conjoined Twins From Antelope Successfully Separated In Operation

PALO ALTO (CBS13) - The family of conjoined twins is celebrating after the pair was successfully separated in a more than day-long operation.

Eva and Erika Sandoval went into surgery Tuesday morning. The operation was expected to last between 18 and 24 hours.

Late Wednesday morning, the Sandoval family announced that the surgery had been a success.

The operation was undertaken in the face of a 30 percent chance that one or both of the two-year-old twins might not survive. Doctors said the twins were thriving together, but the surgery was important and needed for the pair's long-term health.

The Sandoval family are Antelope residents.
