Community Saves Cordelia Bride's Wedding After Fire Burns Everything But Her Dress

CORDELIA (CBS13) — A Cordelia couple thought their dream wedding might not happen, but their special day was saved by strangers.

It was in June when a fast-moving fire destroyed their home and their dream of having their wedding in their own backyard.

CBS13 first introduced you to Heather Thornton when she lost her home in a fire. The only thing she was able to grab was her wedding dress. She finally got to wear it on Friday.

"We lost everything," she said. "I was like there's no way we can have the wedding at all."

The wedding would happen only a few months after the fire, thanks to the generous help of the community.

"It's like the community just took care of us when we needed it," Evan Thornton said.

When people found out Heather lost everything in the fire except her wedding dress, they wanted to help the bride to be.

When having the wedding in her backyard was no longer an option, their church family opened their doors. A photographer even offered his services for free.

"It's overwhelming," Heather said. "You can't really feel unloved."

The Cordelia Fire Department also opened up their fire hall for the reception.
