Colorado School District Bans Peyton Manning Jerseys

GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - Kids in one Colorado school district can wear Cam Newton's jersey, but not Peyton Manning's. It's not that officials in the Greeley-Evans school district favor the Carolina Panthers over the Denver Broncos.

In 2011 the district banned all clothing with the number 18 because district officials say certain numbers are associated with gangs, and those numbers are often used to recruit and intimidate students. Officials say a few other numbers are also barred, because they're associated with local gangs.

District spokeswoman Theresa Myers tells the Greeley Tribune people have gotten used to the restrictions.
