Cockroaches Close New Roma Bakery In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A Sacramento bakery has been shut down after health inspectors found cockroaches and rodent droppings inside.

The Sacramento County Environmental Management Department suspended New Roma Bakery's health permit on Tuesday after an inspection.

Inspectors say they noticed more than a dozen cockroaches inside the bread proofer, a warming chamber that allows yeast to ferment dough by controlling the temperature and humidity. There were also cockroaches found near a sink and outside the proofer.

The health department also noticed rodent droppings on the floor near the proofer.

Also noted in the health report

  • A wet mop head stored adjacent to doughnuts.
  • Food items were stored on the floor
  • Dust and cobwebs throughout

The bakery is located at 1800 E Street.
