Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Boater Near Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - The Coast Guard is suspending its search for a missing boater near Santa Barbara.

KEYT reports the man was aboard a commercial fishing boat that sent a distress signal at about 4 p.m. Friday. One person was rescued by a good Samaritan while another went missing.

The missing boater was wearing a black shirt, black pants and did not have a life-jacket.

Coast Guard helicopter crews searched throughout the night and at first light Saturday morning.

Authorities are reminding boaters to always wear a life jacket, file a plan making friends and family aware of the itinerary, and carry a signaling device like an emergency radio beacon to alert first responders.
