1 Dead, 1 Injured In Citrus Heights Shooting

CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) — One person died and another was injured after two 20-year-old men shot at each other in a Citrus Heights apartment complex on Monday night.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. in the area of Birdcage Street off Greenback Lane. According to a Citrus Heights Police Department statement, multiple people called 911 to report the shooting, and when officers arrived at the scene, they found a 20-year-old man in the walkway of the complex suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for critical injuries.

Officers then went inside an apartment and found another 20-year-old man also suffering from gunshot wounds, they say. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 6000 block of Birdcage Lane was closed during the hours-long investigation.

Police detectives believe the two people involved in the shooting likely knew each other. They ask anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
