CHP: Woman Dies After Crashing Into Truck While Trying To Pass Another Vehicle

WILLIAMS (CBS13) — A woman is dead after attempting to pass a vehicle and slamming into a tomato truck, the California Highway Patrol said on Wednesday.

The crash happened at around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Investigators say the woman was trying to pass another vehicle in a sedan when she crashed head-on into a big rig hauling tomatoes on Old Highway 99. The truck pushed the car into a tree and the resulting crash started a small fire. The woman was declared dead at the scene.

"The best thing to do is just travel safely," said CHP officer Shane Roach. "You should leave your house earlier than you need to to get to work."

The truck driver suffered head and torso injuries in the crash.
