CHP: Suspected Looter Taken Into Custody In San Andreas

SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) -- Authorities say a suspected looter has been arrested near the scene of the Butte Fire.

The person was arrested Saturday morning, according to the CHP Placerville, who is in the area along with many other agencies providing mutual aid.

Numerous agencies - including Placerville CHP, San Andreas CHP, Angels Camp Police K9, Calaveras County Sheriff and the Yolo County Sheriff - responded to the scene to investigate a report of looters at a home in the San Andreas area.

At the home, authorities say they found evidence that the place had been broken into.

One suspect, only identified as a man from Oakland, has been taken into custody. The man's identity has not been released.

Numerous communities remain under evacuation orders due to the Butte Fire. Nearly 65,000 acres have been burned and the fire remains active and unpredictable.
