CHP Helicopter Rescues Hiker That Fell Off Cliff Near Monticello Dam

SOLANO COUNTY (CBS13) – A California Highway Patrol helicopter rescued a hiker who fell off a precarious cliff near the Monticello Dam Sunday afternoon.

CHP helicopter H-32 was called to the scene at the southeast corner of Lake Barryessa around 3:30 p.m. The 20-year-old hiker had fallen and was stuck about 50 feet from the bottom of the cliff and about 200 feet from the top, CHP says.

The helicopter was able to locate the hiker and began to hover over him. Paramedic Ben Schmidt was then lowered down to the hiker and was able to secure the man into a lift collar.

Both the hiker and Schmidt were then lifted up and flown to a landing zone in the area where an ambulance was waiting.

The hiker's injuries are said to be not life-threatening.
