CHP Helicopter Has Close Call With Drone In Bay Area
MARTINEZ (CBS13) - A CHP helicopter in the Bay Area had a dangerously close call with a drone on Sunday night.
The helicopter was reportedly looking for a stolen car in Martinez when the crew suddenly noticed a red light outside the chopper. They were able to determine it was coming from a drone that was almost directly in front of them.
The CHP is warning those who aren't careful when flying drones.
"If you go through the windshield and you hit the pilot, that's game over. If it goes into the rotor blades, depending on where it hits and what it hits, it could be the same situation," said CHP spokesperson Jim Andrews.
Martinez police found with drone's pilot, but he not been arrested or cited; however, he could face federal charges for the incident.
