Chippy Play Leads To Republic FC Forfeiting Friendly At UC Davis

DAVIS (CBS13) – Some on-the-field fireworks during Saturday's friendly match between Sacramento Republic FC and UC Davis led to the Republic head coach forfeiting the game.

A Republic and UC Davis player smash into each another during the second half of the match.

The referee then pulls a red card on Republic defender James Kiffe.

Coach Predrag "Preki" Radosavlijevic says he didn't pull his players off the field because of the card, but rather that he can't afford any more injuries before the regular season begins.

"I made a decision that it wasn't safe for us. Just got to walk out, and you know I'm glad I did," Coach Preki said.

Coach Preki also says it was a clean tackle and that Kiffe never kicked the Davis player.

Republic FC was leading UC Davis 1-0 when they forfeited the match. UC Davis also took on Republic FC almost a year ago to date in a friendly and beat the USL PRO club 1-0.
