Toddler killed, 2 others injured in Roseville I-80 crash

2-year-old child dead, mother injured after collision in Citrus Heights

ROSEVILLE - A two-year-old toddler was killed and two people were injured in a freeway crash in Roseville Wednesday.

The crash happened around 8:48 a.m. along Interstate 80 near Riverside Ave. The CHP says that a pickup truck was merging onto eastbound Interstate 80 when a sedan that was traveling slowly and also merging collided with the truck. The crash killed a two-year-old boy in the sedan and caused major injuries to his mother. The driver of the truck, a man, also suffered major injuries.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene and the two others were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center to be treated.

Eastbound Interstate 80 at Riverside Ave. and the Riverside Ave. on-ramp were closed. Around 11:30 a.m, Caltrans declared that all affected lanes were back open.

The CHP says DUI does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

The identities of the child, the boy, and the truck's driver have not been released.
