Central California Deputy Dies After Gun Accidentally Discharges

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno County sheriff's deputy died after his gun accidentally discharged Monday.

The deputy was not identified.

Sheriff's spokesman Tony Botti says the deputy was on duty at a business park near the Fresno Yosemite International Airport in east-central Fresno when the incident occurred about 3:45 p.m.

The circumstances of the shooting were not detailed.

The deputy was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Fresno County Sheriff's detectives are investigating to determine how the gun was discharged.

Sheriff Margaret Mims is expected to release additional details Tuesday.
