FOLSOM (CBS13) – A man is in custody after allegedly crashing into a fire hydrant in Folsom.

The incident, which happened near Riley and E. Bidwell Streets early Tuesday morning, sent water flying 50 feet into the air.

Folsom police say the driver crashed into the hydrant and kept on going. The car finally came to a resting place sitting on top of the cement median near Orchard Drive.

The driver did sustain some minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Police say he is suspected of driving under the influence.

Witnesses say water was shooting from the broken hydrant for 20 minutes before it was actually turned off by a water company. It is unclear how many gallons of water was wasted.
