Capitol Corridor Train Kills Pedestrian In West Sacramento

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — An Amtrak Capitol Corridor Train hit and killed a pedestrian who was trespassing on the railroad tracks Saturday morning.

The incident happened just after 10:30 a.m. behind the 2700 block of Rice Avenue.

West Sacramento Police say the engineer of the Westbound Capitol Corridor Train #733 saw a man and immediately applied the brakes and sounded the horn. However, the train was unable to stop in time and the pedestrian was struck and suffered fatal injuries.

The identity of the pedestrian, or the reason why they were trespassing on the tracks was not immediately known.

Union Pacific Police will be investigating the incident.
