Candles Blamed For Starting North Highlands Duplex Fire

NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) – Investigators say that unattended candles are to blame for a fire that damaged a North Highlands duplex early Thursday morning.

Heavy smoke was seen coming from the home on Moorhouse Court, near Tyler Street, just before 3:30 a.m. Everyone living inside both sides of the duplex were able to get out safely.

Crews were able to contain the fire to one side of the duplex.

Neighbors reportedly saw the flames and were out with garden hoses to try and help stop the fire before firefighters showed up at the scene.

The Red Cross is now helping the resident displaced by the fire.
