You may have heard of her, you may not have, but one thing is for sure: Once you've heard Tig Notaro's stand-up comedy, you're world will be completely different.

It's almost surprising that more people don't know who Tig Notaro is with her slew of comedy friends like Louis C.K., Ed Helms and Bill Burr and her list of appearances on both television and film, but all of that should change after her Showtime special "Knock Knock, It's Tig Notaro" set to premiere on the CBS-owned network on April 17 at 9pm ET/PT.

The southern comedian has some funny jokes and even more remarkable story underneath the laughs, so check out some of these interesting facts about her before her special airs.

-Survivor

Notaro was diagnosed with stage 2 bi-lateral breast cancer in July 2012 and underwent a double mastectomy shortly after. Notaro's comedic work speaks on this and it's nice to see her show a lighter side to this painful part of her life.

-Tomboy

Born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised in the suburbs of Houston, Texas, Notaro described herself as a tomboy who started smoking at age nine. That sounds pretty rough, but not all that unexpected when she says that her friends called her Huckleberry Tig at one point in her life.
