California State Railroad Museum Hit By Break-In

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Police are investigating a break-in at the California State Railroad Museum, Department of Parks and Recreation officials say.

The break-in happened overnight Thursday, Gloria Sandoval with the department said. At the moment, museum officials do not believe anything was stolen.

Due to the break-in and resulting investigation, some pieces of the museum's collection will not be on display. However, the museum will be open as usual.

The museum is thanking the security measures already in place with keeping the collection safe.

Sandoval noted that the copy of the "Lost Golden Spike" – a spike from the ceremony commemorating the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad – is safe and sound.

Sacramento Police Department detectives are handling the investigation.
