California Murder Suspect Surrenders In New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a man wanted in a homicide case in California has been arrested in New Mexico.

Albuquerque police say an officer was sent to a bus terminal last Thursday concerning a man who wanted to turn himself in for a California murder two days earlier.

They say 50-year-old Pedro Telles-Hechavar also told police that he wasn't taking his medication.

The police officer was able to locate a misdemeanor warrant out of Bernalillo County, but found nothing that tied Telles-Hechavar to any homicides there.

The officer then located news reports of a murder in California that matched the information that Telles-Hechavar had given him.

Los Angeles police later confirmed that Telles-Hechavar was suspected in a fatal stabbing and Albuquerque police booked him into jail. It's unclear when he'll be extradited.
