California Man Electrocuted On Lake Powell Houseboat

PAGE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a California man is dead after being electrocuted on his houseboat on Lake Powell in Arizona.

They say it's the fourth fatality in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area this year.

Authorities say 35-year-old John Ruppert, of San Bernardino, was vacationing in the popular boating and camping area of Oak Canyon with his wife and two children.

Glen Canyon dispatch received a call for help about 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

A medical helicopter was sent to Oak Canyon, which is about 50 miles from the nearest marina.

Authorities say resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and Ruppert was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of the electrocution still is being investigated by the National Park Service and San Juan County Sherriff's Office with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard.
