California Man Convicted Of Stabbing Girlfriend For Breakup

NORWALK, Calif. (AP) -- A Los Angeles County man has been convicted of stabbing his girlfriend 11 times in the arms and chest when she tried to break up with him.

Miguel Roman Gutierrez, 33, was convicted Thursday of premeditated attempted murder, evading an officer and mayhem.

Jurors also found true special allegations that Gutierrez used a deadly and dangerous weapon and he committed great bodily injury upon the victim.

The attack in Bell took place in April 2014. Prosecutors say Gutierrez was separated from his wife and had been dating the girlfriend for three months. Prosecutors say the girlfriend tried to break up with Gutierrez because he refused to divorce his wife.

Bell police lost Gutierrez during a short chase, but he was arrested later.

He'll be sentenced next month.
