California Health Officials Open Emergency Center, Stress Ebola Isn't In California
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — California health officials are trying to calm fears by launching an outreach campaign, working with hospitals on testing and training.
Officials activated an emergency response center that will be the center of any state Ebola response.
"There's no evidence of community spread for Ebola in this state or any other state in the United States," said Dr. Ron Chapman with the California Department of Public Health.
Even so, state health officials let the public know they are prepared by sending infection control specialists into California communities.
"Those specialist are out again all over the state working with hospitals and nurses and nurses associations to make sure protocols are being implemented," he said.
Officials like Dr. Gil Chavez stress the risk of Ebola in California is extremely low, but they are making sure hospitals have the training needed.
"We want to make sure that hospitals know that they need to inquire about travel history, that they need to be able to isolate a patient as soon as a patient shows up," he said.
