Boy, 4, Killed In Drive-By Shooting In Southern California

ALTADENA, Calif. (AP) -- A 4-year-old boy was killed and man he was sitting with on a porch was wounded in a drive-by shooting in Altadena, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said Wednesday.

The victims were in front of a home Tuesday night when multiple shots when someone in a dark-colored car pulled up and fired several shots before speeding away, according to Deputy Trina Schrader.

Both victims were struck multiple times. Reports from the scene indicated that more than a dozen rounds were fired, according to City News Service.

A 27-year-old man and the 4-year-old boy were rushed to a hospital. The boy, identified as Salvador Esparza III, died, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

The adult victim was a family friend and not related to the child, Schrader said. The man's injuries were not life-threatening, she said.

Investigators were searching for a suspect in a dark-colored car but have not identified a motive.
