2 Injured After Jumping Off Yolo Causeway To Avoid Being Hit By Big Rig

YOLO COUNTY (CBS13) — Two people were injured late Tuesday night after jumping off the causeway to avoid being hit by a truck.

According to CHP officers at the scene, two separate crashes took place Tuesday night leading up to the closure of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80. Officers said first there was a minor collision where the vehicles pulled over to the side of the road.

The second crash reportedly happened as the vehicles tried to avoid the first collision. CHP says a truck hit a car involved in the first crash and two people who had pulled over to the side of the causeway jumped off the road to avoid being hit.

Officers say the pair landed underneath the causeway. Both were injured, one with major injuries who was airlifted from the scene, and the other with minor injuries who was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

All lanes of the highway reopened just before midnight.
