Big Rig Carrying Load Of Strawberries Overturns On I-580

TRACY (CBS13) – A big rig carrying a full load of strawberries overturned Wednesday morning, causing mess on westbound I-580 near Tracy.

Authorities are saying that, just before 4 a.m., the driver looks to have fallen asleep at the wheel and crashed the big rig.

The scene is just east of the Highway 132 on-ramp from I-580.

Just before 8 a.m. crews were able to right the big rig, but the strawberries came falling out the back. A huge cleanup process is underway, forcing the right lane of westbound I-580 to be closed for a time. The roadway was reopened just after 8 a.m.
