Big rig carrying ice cream overturns on I-80 in Vacaville

Traffic still backed up after ice cream truck crashed on I-80 in Vacaville

VACAVILLE – A big rig crash on Interstate 80 that gave drivers headaches almost all Wednesday morning continues to be a problem into the afternoon hours.

The crash happened on the eastbound side of the freeway a little before 5 a.m., near the Alamo Drive onramp.

Exactly what led up to the crash is unclear, but at least two vehicles – including a big rig carrying ice cream – were involved, California Highway Patrol says. The big rig ended up overturned.

While the big rig mostly crashed off the freeway, debris was left scattered all over the roadway.

Officers said the #4 lane would be closed for some time as crews worked to right the big rig.

As of 2 p.m., the lane remains blocked and traffic along the eastbound corridor of I-80 through Fairfield is now severely impacted.

Drivers who need to head through the area are being urged to take a different route.
