Nothing symbolizes spring more than the start of the baseball season. Raley Field is home of the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The stadium was opened in 2000 and is the premier venue to watch the stars of tomorrow or yesteryear as they compete to be called up to the majors. The River Cats' home opener is on Apr. 15. The team will pay tribute to the life and career of baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson. That night is also the first of many fireworks shows. Raley Field also has one of the best values on Tuesday nights. Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and desserts.

Sacramento Earth Day will be held on Apr. 24 at Southside Park from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The annual event is hosted by the Environmental Council of Sacramento. There will be food, live music and children's activities for families to enjoy. There are expected to be more than 150 exhibits to provide important information and to educate attendees on how to protect the planet for future generations.

The Sacramento Zoo will hold Star Wars Day on Apr. 30. Zoo visitors have an opportunity to take pictures with their favorite characters from noon to 2:00 p.m. There are also stage shows and crafts that families can enjoy. Families will also be able to explore more than 140 native, rare and endangered species. Hours of operation in April and May are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

For those families who are not Star Wars fans, Rancho Cordova will hold its 27th Kids Day at Hagan Park on Apr. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The theme this year celebrates Rancho Cordova as a "great place to grow." It is an event intended for parents with children 12 and under. There will be plenty of activities and fun for the entire family to enjoy. More than 5,000 people attended the event last year.

The Sacramento County Fair will be held at the Cal Expo during Memorial Day weekend. The theme this year is "Let's Eat, Have Fun & Celebrate the Red, White & Blue." The event is presented by the 52nd District Agricultural Association and is dedicated to educating attendees on agriculture, business and technology. Some of the premier events taking place include a bull riding competition on Saturday and a junior livestock auction on Sunday. There will also be carnival rides for children of all ages to enjoy.
