Bay Area Deputy Saves Driver Just Before Train Hits Car

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) - In a dramatic rescue captured on video, a Northern California deputy pulled a suspected drunken driver from his car seconds before a commuter train slams into it.

The footage shows the deputy dragging the driver across an intersection, away from the car, right before the train collides.

The San Jose Mercury News reported Tuesday that two San Mateo County sheriff's deputies were on patrol Monday evening when they heard a car hitting a train signal post in Sunnyvale.

They saw a disoriented driver behind the wheel of a car stranded on the tracks and a train rapidly approaching. Both ran toward the train, one waving his arms to get the engineer's attention and the other pulling the man to safety.

The driver was treated for minor injuries and cited for drunken driving.
