Barricaded Person Forces Evacuations On Christmas Morning In South Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A south Sacramento neighborhood was evacuated due to police activity on Christmas morning.

Sacramento Sheriff Special Enforcement Detail were dispatched to the 5100 block of Thurman Way after 911 calls came in around 4:30 AM.  Sacramento Sheriff's spokesmen Tony Turnbull says the suspect got into an argument with his girlfriend and fired shots inside the home.  The girlfriend was able to exit the home without being injuries.

Deputies had a perimeter set-up in the area and were making announcements on a public address system asking the subject to come to the door and surrender peacefully.

With the help of Sheriff's Negotiators, Sheriff Canine and Special Enforcement Detail we able to peacefully apprehend 35 year old Spence Louis Sawyer just before 10 AM.  Sawyer was arrested and booked into Sacramento County Jail for negligent discharge of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
