Bakersfield Vice Principal Arrested After Bringing Gun On Junior High School Campus

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Police say they arrested the vice principal of a Central California school suspected of bringing a gun onto the junior high campus where he works.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs of the Bakersfield Police Department said Thursday that 51-year-old Kent Williams was booked into jail and placed on administrative leave. Williams cooperated with officials and police say the school day went uninterrupted.

Grubbs says the school district contacted police, and when an officer approached Williams at Tevis Junior High School, he told them the gun was in his backpack.

Officials say Williams has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but that doesn't allow him to bring it into a school.

The Panama Buena Vista Union School District policy also bans guns from campus.

It is unclear if Williams has an attorney.
