ATV Rollover Kills Child Passenger In San Joaquin County

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY (CBS13) - An ATV accident has claimed the life of a child in San Joaquin County.

Around 1:30 p.m., two 9-year-old children and two 14-year-old children were riding an ATV in a grass field on private property near Cord Road and Highway 12 in San Joaquin County when the 14-year-old driver suddenly swerved, rolling the ATV onto its passenger side.

A 9-year-old sitting on the lap of the person in the passenger seat was thrown from the vehicle, receiving severe internal injuries. They were not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The child died by the time responding CHP officers arrived at the scene.

All four of the passengers were family members.

Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
