Art Class Aims To Help In Grieving Process

LODI (CBS13) – With the stroke of a paintbrush and a fond memory of someone you have lost, the Lonely Hearts Workshop at Bath & More in Lodi is helping those grieve with the loss of a loved one with a personalized wooden heart.

"I needed something that would keep me staying busy because, I didn't want to even think about my dad being gone," said Denise Konz, owner of Affordable Antique Bath & More.

Konz came up with the idea after her father died from Parkinson's disease.

"We started the Lonely Hearts class because we wanted to share with other people that are grieving," Konz said.

The personalized hearts are made from repurposed picture moldings.

"I painted my heart and it was the hardest thing to do because I finally realized that my dad is really gone," Konz said.

And while many paint memories to honor the life that once lived, others say the memorial can be a spiritual experience to finally let go.

"It was such a healing thing for me because it was his favorite things, the San Francisco 49ers, and so I did it and it was the best thing in the world," Konz said.

Classes are $40 and includes art instruction and the memorial heart.
