Teen's body recovered from American River in Placer County

The body of a 17-year-old boy was recovered after he went missing in the American River late Thursday morning, authorities said.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office said a witness saw the teen enter the water around 10:30 a.m. near the confluence in the Auburn area and called 911 after he didn't resurface.

Crews from the Placer County Sheriff's Office, along with Cal Fire, responded to search the area. A dive team, drones and a helicopter were at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

Shortly before 3 p.m., deputies said the teen's body was recovered downstream from where he was last seen.

The identification of the teen has not been released.
