Spilled oil on Interstate 80 near Alta leads to big rig crash that closed lanes
Westbound Interstate 80 was closed early Friday afternoon when oil spilled onto the freeway, leading to a big rig crash, officials said.
The California Highway Patrol said a dump truck crashed and spilled oil onto the freeway around 11 a.m. Then a gravel truck crashed off the road into trees.
Officers said the dump truck was able to get back on the freeway, but it continued to spill fuel and oil on the road.
Shortly after that, an Amazon big rig driver lost control due to the oil and fuel on the road, leading to a crash near Alta Bonnynook Road, the CHP said.
Two lanes on the westbound I-80 were blocked in the area until about 1 p.m., when one lane reopened. Eastbound was also temporarily closed for emergency vehicles to access the crash scene.
The highway was fully reopened shortly before 3 p.m.
CHP officers reported minor injuries.
