After 5,323 Calls In 2 Years, Sacramento County Cracking Down On Problem Motel 6 Properties

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) — The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office has identified six Motel 6 properties as unlawful nuisances for their high number of calls for service.

The sign says welcome and it's a place that promises to leave the light on for you, but at some Sacramento County Motel 6s, there have been more lights and sirens.

The district attorney's office is finalizing strict rules requiring them to keep security lights on, hire armed security guards and build fences.

The move comes after more than 5,000 calls for service across the more than 500 rooms in the six worst Motel 6 properties in the county in a two-year period.

Motel 6 is agreeing with the changes, as well as opening bank accounts the county can draw from directly to pay for repairs of future code enforcement violations, including graffiti and abandoned, broken-down cars.

Sacramento County Supervisor Susan Peters supports the plan.

"The big takeaway is that the sheriff's deputies and the city police that are dealing with these horrible motels, will have that much more time available to go out and make our communities safe," he said.
