Adventure Fire Burns 100 Acres, 75 Percent Contained

COLOMA (CBS13) — Firefighters are working to contain the Adventure Fire after it burned 100 acres and closed Highway 49 for much of Thursday.

The fire is 75 percent contained, and the highway reopened Thursday evening.

Hand crews, air tanker, and 10-year-old James Smart battled the fast-moving flames on his grandparents' campsite.

"I was spraying the plants," he said

"It's the first one that we had that was so close to our property," said Katherine McLain.

Then the fire erupted toward the American River, where a couple rafting downstream waited to find out if they could get out of the water, but they say it didn't cut their day short.
