A Look At The Sacramento Zoo's New Lion Cubs

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – It has been a week of happiness and heartbreak for the big cats at the Sacramento Zoo.

Monday, officials announced that three African Lion cubs had been born at the zoo. The cubs – which were actually born on Oct. 24 – and their mother won't be making a public appearance at the zoo for until they develop more.

All the cubs look to be healthy, the zoo says.

However, the mood at the zoo took a somber turn on Wednesday when officials announced that Castro the Sumatran Tiger had died. Castro had been battling lymphoma since Feb. 2013.

Officials say the decision was made to euthanize Castro after his condition took a turn for the worst recently. He was 16 and a half years old.
