6-Alarm Fire Destroys East Bay Apartments Under Construction

EMERYVILLE (CBS) — A 6-alarm fire erupted at a construction site early Wednesday, sending a massive plume of flames and smoke that was visible for miles and to commuters on Highways 24, 580 and 980.

Authorities there have been no injuries reported in the fire that was burning in a 5-story apartment building under construction at 3838 San Pablo Avenue.

As a precaution, residents of a townhouse complex across the street were evacuated.
