5-Year-Old Sacramento Girl's Hanging Death Ruled Accident

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The 5-year-old girl found hanging in a Del Paso Heights home Sunday has been ruled a tragic accident, say police.

Krista Nichols was found hanging at her grandmother Moang Saelee's home in 3800 block of Jasmine Street.

"It seems to be a tragic accident, but we're going to wait for a final ruling from the coroner's office before we close the case," said Officer Doug Morse.

Saelee said it was a freak accident, but admits she wasn't home when it happened. She says somehow Krista attached some kind of rope to a hook meant for potted plants on her living room ceiling, and then hanged herself.

Saelee doesn't believe her granddaughter meant to do it, and said nobody was watching the girl at the time.
