49ers Sign Star CFL Wide Receiver Eric Rogers

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday the signing of Canadian Football League wide receiver Eric Rogers to a two-year contract.

Rogers, who is from Glendora, Calif in Southern California, is in his second year in the CFL and lead the league in receiving yards and touchdowns with 1,448 and 10. The 24-year-old attended Division III Cal Lutheran where he broke school records in yards and scoring for his position - he hauled in 220 receptions for 3,461 yards and 41 touchdowns over four seasons.

Between college and the CFL, Rogers spent a season in the Arena Football League with the Portland Thunder. In his lone AFL season, Rogers caught 73 passes for 903 yards and 27 touchdowns.

Because rules are wildly different between the college, CFL and AFL there's no real translation from his career statistics to predict how he will perform in the NFL.

There's no doubt the 49ers need help at the receiver position, Rogers may be the next productive wideout in San Francisco.
