Yuba City Teachers Reach Agreement With School District, Ending Strike

YUBA CITY (CBS13) - Yuba City teachers and school district representatives have reached an agreement on a new contract, putting teachers back in the classroom.

Earlier Monday night, the union approved the contract, with 506 "yes" votes and only 15 "no's".

The new contract will give teachers an 11.1 percent raise which will be spread out over the next three years.

The district will also offer longevity pay to retain experienced teachers. And, teachers gained non-monetary incentives.

Monday was first day teachers returned to Yuba City Unified School District classrooms since the strike began on September 8.

Word of a breakthrough in contract talks came early Monday morning after a long negotiating session over the weekend. The deal was reportedly finished at around 5 a.m. on Monday.
