3.7-Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Mammoth Lakes

A 3.7-magnitude earthquake occurred near Mammoth Lakes in the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains of Northern California on Saturday, USGS reports.

The tremor was recorded at 6:34 a.m. about 10 miles east-southeast of Mammoth Lakes, roughly 200 miles east of San Francisco, at an estimated depth of 4.4 miles.

The region around Mammoth Mountain is among the more seismically active areas of the Far West and a quake of this magnitude is not uncommon.

No damage has been reported.
