200 Chickens Stolen From Sonoma County Farm

SEBASTOPOL, Calif. (AP) - Less than two weeks before Easter, a farmer says more than 200 hens that lay eggs with shells in subtle shades of green, blue, rose and chocolate brown have been stolen.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports Thursday that Gerald Leuschen says the birds were stolen from Buddy's Farm earlier this month.

A few weeks ago he found he coop was unlatched and he later realized his brood was much smaller than it should have been, explaining a decline in egg production, as well

He says Buddy's Farm is named after a rooster who wandered near his home a few years ago.

Leuschen says he's losing money and his family misses the hens.

He filed a report Tuesday with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, but officials said it was unclear whether it would be investigated.
