Stockton welfare check reveals 2 dead with gunshot wounds inside home
STOCKTON - Authorities say the case of two people discovered inside a Stockton home, dead from gunshot wounds, appears to be a murder-suicide.
Deputies with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office were called out to the 6200 block of Harrisburg Place near Porter Way, a suburban neighborhood, at around 10 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's office says. When deputies arrived at the home, they found two bodies -- a 68-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman -- with gunshot wounds.
Neighbors told CBS13 that the couple was married.
"It's very uncomfortable, it's like very shocking," said Mary Foshee, a resident who lives in the area.
Crime scene tape was put up around the home, where there is a grey sedan parked in the driveway. There is also crime scene tape running across the road to cut off vehicle access to the area while deputies investigate the scene.
At around 12:15 p.m., the sheriff's office said that detectives were on their way to the home.
Neighbors described the husband as a military veteran. Meanwhile, the wife was known for walking her dog throughout the neighborhood. So it had been unusual when neighbors had not seen her on those walks.
But early Wednesday morning, Brisa Deleon's home surveillance captured an unusual sight.
"Our dog usually stays around this corner, and you can clearly hear her dog," Deleon said.
The neighbor said her dog barked excitedly in the direction of the couple's home.
"Our dogs know each other," she said. "So she usually passes by, and she stays for a bit and talks to my mom, but this morning, she didn't do that."
Authorities did not release a suspect description but did say there is no active threat to the community.
On Thursday, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the case appeared to be a murder-suicide.
