2 Children Injured After Car Drives Through Wall Of Elk Grove School

ELK GROVE (CBS13) - Two children were treated for injuries they received after a vehicle drove into a preschool in Elk Grove on Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from the Cosumnes Fire Department, the late-model Volkswagen sedan was in the parking lot of the Phoenix School on 3050 Babson Drive, when it suddenly drove forward, hit the wall of the school and went six feet into a classroom.

The driver was temporarily trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by firefighters.

A teacher and eight students were in the classroom at the time. The class will remain closed Tuesday as personnel from Elk Grove city code enforcement and Metro Fire evaluate the extent of damage to the building.

The two injured students were taken to area hospitals.

Elk Grove police investigating the crash say the driver appears to have mistaken the brake for the accelerators.  Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
