2 Girls, Ages 9 And 14, Killed In Fire At Mendocino County Home

MANCHESTER, Calif. (AP) -- A four-alarm fire at a nearly 150-year-old home along the coast of Mendocino County has killed two young girls.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that the fire broke out early Tuesday at a two-story Manchester home.

A man, his wife and their son were able to escape the blaze through an upstairs window but two girls, ages 9 and 14, were unable to exit the house.

Mendocino County sheriff's officials have not released the names of the sisters who died, but the girls' family has set up a GoFundMe page in their memory. More than $14,000 had been raised of their $50,000 goal.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
